Australian Nick Kyrgios struggled to explain his stunning sledge aimed at Stan Wawrinka at the Rogers Cup.
The 20-year-old may have beaten two-time grand slam champion Wawrinka in the second round, but all the attention afterwards was on a sledge he made.
During the clash, Kyrgios was heard saying: "[Thanasi] Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend.
"Sorry to tell you that, mate."
It overshadowed Kyrgios' win, which came when Wawrinka retired while trailing 6-7 (8-10) 6-3 4-0.
Asked in an on-court interview as to why he made the comment, Kyrgios battled to explain.
Questioner: "I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't ask you. It's gone viral on Twitter tonight. The microphones picked up a comment you made to him about Kokkinakis. Just what went through your mind in making a statement like that?
Kyrgios: "You know, I thought, he was getting a bit lippy at me so I don't know, it's just in the moment sort of stuff, but yeah, I don't really know, I just said it."
